| Raw Food Diet & Links |
| My labs have been eating a raw diet since April 2000. I had read about it for years, and finally decided to take the leap. I am hoping that we will have as many years as possible with our dogs, and I feel that a healthy diet is the way to do just that. I am actually spending a little less than when I fed a premium dry food ( Wellness) , and the dogs love this the best! Dry dog food has many of the nutritients cooked out of it. Raw food is the way dogs were meant to eat, the nutrition is all right in there. The dog's stools are firm and small, not mushy. Since the bones are NOT cooked they don't splinter, and it keeps their teeth very clean. I feed raw chicken backs, turkey meat, beef, liver and deer meat. Once in a while I feed fruits and vegtables that have been put through a food processor. I use mostly green leafy veggies, plus apples, peaches, banannas, pears, mango, cucumber, green peppers, squash, green beans, broccoli, lima beans, pumpkin, collard greens etc....plus some suppliments, Vit E, Vit C, Salmon oil, ACV, and garlic, Alfalfa and Source. Many dogs with health problems have been helped by feeding the raw diet. You can tailor it to suit the individual dog. I think it is the healthiest way to feed, but you do need freezer space and some prep time. I recommend reading Dr. Ian Billinghurst's book "Give Your Dog a Bone" and " Grow Your Pups with Bones". Also try Kympathy Schultze book "Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet". Wendy Volhard & Kerry Brown's "The Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog". Dr. Tom Longsdale's Raw Meaty Bones. You can find these books at Dog Wise. |
